About Emily

Emily Slapin hails from northern New Jersey where she was raised by an art teacher and a jazz musician. She started drawing early in life and hasn’t stopped yet. Emily got her BFA in Illustration from the Rhode Island School of Design with a minor in Art History. She then went on to earn her MFA in Drawing from the New York Academy of Art with a minor in Artistic Anatomy. After 8 years of teaching undergraduate classes at Platt College in San Diego and Continuing Education classes at the Rhode Island School of Design, Emily decided to go back to school to become a medical illustrator. Emily is excited to use her love of visual story-telling and human anatomy to inspire, educate, and empower patients and students. When she’s not in the studio, Emily enjoys spending time with her husband and two dogs, and renovating her historic house.
